THE DEFINITION OF MOVING | San Francisco Moving Company

Mar 20, 2018

Moving…

The definition of moving begins with that dreaded word, change. As humans, we all tend to be reluctant when it comes to change. Let’s face it; most of us fear the uncertainty of the changes that come about with moving. Did you know that the average American moves about 11 times within a lifetime? That is a lot of moving boxes! Recent studies have shown that moving is just as stressful as a death in the family. We here at Luigys moving San Francisco want to make your transition as seamless as possible. Here are some helpful tips on how to cope with the stress of moving.

First, hire professional movers. This is the part where we fit in. Everyone hates to pack — it’s terrible! Our staff at Luigys  Moving takes packing seriously; after all it is our job. We take our time to insure that all of your valuables are packed away neatly and safely for the trip.

Second, have a positive attitude about the change. Try to think of all the new and exciting things that can come with a move. This will be an opportunity for you to grow, reach out and meet new people, try something new.

Third, plan ahead! Last minute decisions and changes cause more stress. Start planning as far ahead as you can and map out the things you need to accomplish with the move.

Fourth, do some research on the area you will be moving to. This is especially helpful for those that are moving a great distance away. As humans, we take comfort in knowing our surroundings and certainty. Take the time to look at new stores and restaurants in the area. This will give you something to look forward to in your new adventure.

Fifth, stay in touch with friends. Moving takes an emotional toll on all of us; it is easier when you have support. Make sure to keep in touch and plan things with old friends as well as new friends. Sometimes we all just need to call our bestie and talk things through.

Sixth, Exercise! Believe it or not, exercise is a great outlet for stress. For each individual, this will be different. You could find a new yoga class to help relieve the tension of moving. Some may enjoy a vigorous run on the treadmill while listening to our favorite tunes. Or maybe you would prefer a walk in the park with your furry friend. Others may want to unwind by getting a massage or meditating. Do whatever it is that suites your fancy and brings you the most joy.

Seventh, create new routines and patterns. Let’s face it, we are creatures of habit. Moving turns our routines upside down. Try to stay as close to normal as possible; this is your functioning comfort zone. At the same time allow some changes to happen and go with the flow. During this process, you might find a different way to do the things you already love doing.

Eighth, expect disruption. Make sure to set your expectations to a realistic level. Yes you can plan ahead, and yes you can hire professionals. This doesn’t mean that there won’t be disruption from what you are used to. You might find that your new route to work is not what you expected, or that your new schedule doesn’t allow you to do Tai Chi at 5 am. This is ok, you will be ok. Tackle each new task with open eyes, and know that there will be change.

Ninth, declutter! Use the move as an opportunity to clean out the old. We all have stuff laying around that we no longer use or need. Now is the time to let go. There are several options to getting rid of the things you no longer need. Look into selling some items, maybe a garage sale is in your future. Donations are a great option, and also a tax write-off.

Lastly, look at this as a new beginning. Unfortunately, in the world we live in, change is constant. We cannot expect to grow and succeed without change. Embrace the new and put your fears aside. It does no good to sit around wallowing in pity, it only makes you miserable. Look towards your future and all of the bright new things ahead.
